Tree’s done!

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. (Matthew 5)

Tree
You can deal with the biblical quotes and references these few posts. Like any really Good Book, it’s got wisdom and history and for many, a great deal more and this is a season when it’s nice if the spirit moves you. You already know I’m quite open minded about the spirits that move you and heaven forbid you confuse my faith and hope with my politics, one way or t’other, but come December, I’m full of good spirit. The concept of Jesus on earth, among men, is like the best of women friends: a gift, an inspiration, an aspiration. That comparison is maybe a sacrilege to some, but He puts me in mind of the poor, the meek, the overtaxed (and I don’t mean the end of the fourth quarter here, but rather the cold and rag tag burdens of the homeless living under the bridges that lead to the Magnificent Mile). Like a really good friend, He reminds me of what I need to do and try to be- and that’s a good thing.

The Heifer Project is a perfect example, in my mind, of Christian charity in action. How clever that it’s also so Buddhist, so Islamic, so Hindu, so rooted in the agriculture and husbandry of winter and summer solstice. We can all join in! I think I’ll send Hoss a flock of geese (as yet, you can’t buy a posse of dung beetles).

So, the tree is more than done. It’s overdone with the magpie hoard of ornaments with history and meaning. No real theme, color way or design style here. It’s the hodge podge of my Christmas past, present, cumulative. There’s a moon jelly there, the Cowardly Lion, birds, shells, lots of glass. Unlike Wilbur, when it comes to my tree I’m not humble. I just think it’s Some Tree.

I’m off to Florida for the final punch list run through and to gather together my Snarl for her Christmas break at home. But I’ll continue to find you over the next few days.Closetree1

  1. Gorgeous! Wonderful thoughts. Have a very blessed Christmas.

  2. Well that’s a magnificent tree – well done! And I like the sense that you are well pleased and hope the trip to the Snarl extricates her satisfactorally!

    Best wishes to you!

  3. Wow that looks gorgeous, hodgepodge or not. I hope I can make one that looks half that good.

  4. That is truly a wonderful tree.

  5. I have to tell you, after spending a great deal of time hanging with clergy types(Seminary… oof!) that you put me in mind of the the best of them—those that I admire, at least. You have a way of crossing the great divide between Religious and Secular that makes it possible for everyone to relate. A way of uniting those spheres that makes everyone feel included–which, really should be the goal of religious language. That’s a rare gift most clergy wish they had.

This is all to say your post is as beautiful as your tree. Lovely, so lovely.

  6. What a lovely tree. I hope to get some pictures of mine this week. That really is Some Tree.

  7. You and your tree are both beautiful. Send geese; I’m hungry.

I don’t think I can get in “the Spirit”. But as long as you’re happy, I’m happy.

  8. Merry Christmas….May God continue to keep you in his heart – as He always has and always will….Bless you.

  9. Your tree is really lovely, Vicki, and it is an example of the type of tree I love the best: all ornaments old or new, hand-picked and loved for years. A veritable tapestry of memories! (Had you shared your new address with me, you would have had some new ones to place on that tree (tsk, tsk).

I wish Hoss would get the spirit.

  10. Yes, Heifer is great… the gift to give someone who needs nothing. We bought a lamb in honor of Nyssa’s paternal grandparents one year. It was wonderful. They do good work.

Your tree is lovely, so soft and dreamy. I love this kind of tree the best. The “memory” tree with memories from here and there. It is lovely.

And will the McCloud and Sophie gang leave the tree alone while you’re gone? It seems that several kitties on the internet are acting out, creating havoc and chaos.

Have a good trip and hope all goes well with your house. Peace and joy, as always.

  11. You and I both have the eclectic tree, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! It is gorgeous; how did you take that photo of it with the lights? I am having trouble doing that with ours. Beautiful post, as Wende said. How do you manage to say it so perfectly?

  12. It’s beautiful! Your work is done. Now go get that Snarl and come home for Christmas.

  13. A beautiful tree, and it matches your seasonal spirit–full of good cheer, light, and loving memories.

  14. That is a pretty tree and evocative photographs of it. I see you found something to fill the space! Bringing the snarl home AND the right shaped tree. Merry Christmas, Vicki.

The snowglobe incident was luckily one of the ones that had begun to discolor a bit. I’m hoping the girl won’t take inventory. It was a real mess to clean up though.

  15. Beautiful. You, your words, your tree -all simply beautiful. Merry Christmas, Vicky, to you and yours.

  16. Wowsers! That tree is splendifinous!
