Mental Health Break

(The statistics indicate that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness.
Think of your three best friends; if they’re okay, then it’s you.)

I’m taking the afternoon off. Just remembering giving birth to Dan has put me in need of a mental health break. When I’m stressed I head out to the garden. I have lots to do out there especially trying to figure out what I want to do with a low area that just doesn’t get much sun. It’s in the far back of the lot where it’s heavily wooded. Here’s an idea (maybe from someone who’s done time); you might want to try it. Or not.

Moss Graffiti

(serves to create several small pieces or 1 large piece of  graffiti)
________________________________________________

          1 can of beer
          1/2 teaspoon sugar
          Several clumps garden moss

You will also need a plastic container (with lid),
          a blender and a paintbrush

          _________________________________________________
To begin the recipe, first of all gather together several clumps of moss (moss can usually be found in moist, shady places) and crumble them into a blender. Then add the beer and sugar and blend just long enough to create a smooth, creamy consistency.
Now pour the mixture into a plastic container.

Find a suitable damp and shady wall on to which you can apply your moss milkshake. Paint your chosen design onto the wall (either free-hand
or using a stencil). If possible try to return to the area over the following weeks to ensure that the mixture is kept moist. Soon the bits of blended moss should begin to re-couperate into a whole rooted plant – maintaining your chosen design before eventually colonising the whole area

.

If I did go round the bend and decide to do this I wouldn’t be using it to spell out Moss Graffiti.          Mg3

  1. Rats–I drank the beer before I mixed it with the sugar and moss. I guess I’ll take a hot yoga class for my mental health instead. Have a great weekend, Vicki!

  2. Here via Michele….

Sounds like an interesting project, but maybe a wee bit too Martha Steward for me….

  3. Gee, kid, you’re not showing good sense. That’s an awful waste of sugar.

  4. Vicki: I just noticed something. That picture of the black cat says, when you aim pointer at it: “My photo.” So, you are a black cat? How many humans do you own?

  5. (Bonnie so does not drink beer.)

Vicki, this moss tagging is beyond Martha Stewart. Makes me want to moss “EAT ME” around the yard.

  6. Grace- I know what you mean. A little tequila in the blender and these green squiggles could be the cure for menopause. Throw in a few edemame for good measure. And just think- they “colonize” the whole area…grow them around the hut. I think Bonnie drinks an occasional glass of fine wine. She’s my calming influence around the blogsphere- and very funny AND she went to the finest school for vets in the country.

  7. Hey, Vicki– You’re one of the top seven contenders in Blogging 4 Books. BOOOOHHHH YEEEAAAHHHHHHH, YOU GO, GIRL!!!!

  8. CONGRATULATIONS on your Blogging 4 Books honor, Vicki!

Grace knows me too well…indeed, we Spartans are sophisticated oeniphiles and epucurians (that oft-mentioned habit of beer-swilling and couch-burning after football defeats is most likely an urban legend). My calm is being tested every time I read that skewed compliment– “the finest school for vets”. ;~)

  9. Hey! Vets are friends of my friends! 🙂

  10. You know, I keep thinking about your mental health statistics and my friends.

What does it say about me and my friends that it’s all of us?!?!?!?!?!

  11. I shall try to remain stoic regarding my misspelling of epicureans. Mr. Hawkins took your advice, by the way.
